Code of Conduct for CURTAIN CALL THEATRE at the RUSSIAN RIVER

Welcome to Curtain Call Theatre at the Russian River.

In order to uphold the Principles and Precepts upon which Curtain Call Theatre at the Russian River is founded, the Board of Directors deem it of the utmost importance to offer the opportunities to the Community at large to learn and participate in the activities of theater production in all its aspects and many other community activities. To this end, the Board feels that these Principles must be observed by all participants/volunteers for their personal enjoyment, for the enjoyment of all other participants, and that of the entire community. Therefore, the Board requires all participants to seriously adhere to the Code of Conduct set forth here at all times.

We are very serious about the professional quality of our theater company. We treat everyone, be it guests or volunteers, with courtesy and respect. We expect you to do the same. This is all we ask. If you are an amateur, we don’t expect you to have a professional quality performance. However, we want to give you the best opportunity to do well and learn the craft in every possible aspect. Therefore, try to learn the art of the theater with us, and have a good time.

We expect every volunteer to read and follow these guidelines. If any of these rules are not followed, it will result in dismissal at the discretion of the Company Manager or the Board of Directors. Kindly acknowledge by e-mail or below with a copy of this agreement, your receipt, understanding, and agreement to this Code of Conduct.

Thank you. We hope your participation and contributions will be your reward for you and for your community at large.

  1. BE COURTEOUS to everyone inside and outside the theater building at all times. Your behavior in connection with Curtain Call Theatre is a reflection on the entire company in general and will be the measure by which we will all be judged by the community at large.
  2. Your participation is a privilege, not a right. You must make every effort to show willingness to IMPROVE YOUR SKILLS and hone your talents. This will require WILLINGNESS to learn from others in charge of a project at all times. (i.e.: Director, Stage Manager, House Manager, Designer, Artistic Director, and Technical Director.)
  3. BE ON TIME at all times to rehearsals, performances, line run-thrus, set strikes*, and all support activities like fundraisers and meetings that will advance the interests of the Company and the Art it represents. ACTORS and TECHNICIANS must check in with the Stage Manager one hour prior to every performance. NO TARDINESS will be tolerated.
*SET STRIKE IS PART OF YOUR COMMITMENT TO ANY SHOW IN WHICH YOU APPEAR. MAKE A NOTE OF THIS PLEASE.
  4. RESPECT yourself and others will respect you.
  5. Leave your PERSONAL BAGGAGE and YOUR EGO outside the theater space at all times PLEASE. Treat the time and space you share with others as you practice your art as a sacred temple for creativity only and only as a TEAM member.
  6. Do NOT GOSSIP or engage in arguments. This includes e-mails and phone calls about others’ behavior. Defamation of character or discrediting fellow volunteers or Board members is cause for immediate dismissal. ALL issues and disagreements must be presented only to the Director, Stage Manager, or ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, IN THAT ORDER. ALL FINAL ARTISTIC DECISIONS of all productions are at the discretion of the ARTISTIC DIRECTOR.
  7. Use of ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS while working on ANY project in the theater is strictly prohibited and will be cause for immediate dismissal. This includes arriving to the theater space under the influence as well. How you recreate yourself after working at CCT is your own business.
  8. Only an authorized Director or Stage Manger of the theater company may ask you to purchase an item on behalf of the theater. It is imperative that you submit your RECEIPT/S to that person as soon as you deliver the item in order to be refunded promptly. Any receipt submitted after two weeks from the close of a show will not be honored and will be considered a tax-deductible donation to the theater by you.
  9. ALL ACTORS must be fully responsible for their costumes and props, and for the TIDINESS AND CLEANLINESS of their dressing rooms and the Green Room at all times during and after every performance. The Stage manager may assign you shifts for this purpose before or after rehearsals or performances. You will be expected to cooperate with her/him in this regard.
Any damage or loss of items issued to you or damage to any part of the HALL must be paid for by the person responsible, and may also be reason for dismissal if not honored.
  10. NO RESERVED SEATING is allowed in the Theater unless cleared with the Company Manager first. Seating is on a first come first serve basis only, except those reserved for patrons through their subscriptions.
If any of your guests break the House rules or cause a disturbance, they will be asked to leave immediately.
  11. NO RECORDING OR FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY during a performance without prior permission from the Director and/or Company Manager. CELLPHONE use or conversations BACKSTAGE during rehearsals or performance is prohibited. You are reminded that conversations backstage can be heard in the Hall and all volunteers backstage are to stay quiet during those times.
Except for communicating with the Stage Manager or Director, all conversations must take place outside the theater space during those times as well.
  12. ALL ACTORS and TECHNICIANS OF A PRODUCTION are expected at SET STRIKE. All other volunteers are encouraged to join in the team effort to minimize the work and make it more fun and less time consuming. Everyone is invited to any cast party as well.
  13. If you are engaged in another production outside Curtain Call Theatre understand that we will not cast you in a production that is running or is rehearsing concurrently with any of our productions. This serious matter must be discussed with the Director and Artistic Director of the Company prior to any acceptance of a role as an actor or as a technician in a production.
